Easy Outfit Ideas for Couples

Statement pieces for men selected by Apache.

I have never seen a blog that addresses easy outfit ideas for couples.  Maybe I’m wrong, but I prefer to think this is an original idea!  We are obviously a couple that enjoys fashion together and i’m sure there are more of you out there, so we are gonna talk a little about his and also hers.

Our appreciation for style has gifted us many fun memories over the years.  As a couple, we have enjoyed browsing boutiques together, picking out outfits, trying them on for one another, and then getting all dressed up for dates feeling so fresh and so clean. Ultimately confidence can make or break any outfit.

Do we shop all the time?  Hell no, our last name is not Kardashian!  We aint rich…yet…. and we are not shopaholics either. We would rather not be in debt over clothing- been there and done that already. Instead, the medical and college bills are the reigning King and Queen of our debt and sufficient at holding the current Golden Debt title without any help from us making UN-budgeted clothing purchases!

Apache and I both take really good care of what we have so our clothes and accessories literally have lasted decades. Plus, our mom Regina spoils us with apparel every chance she gets. When you take loving care of your clothes and respect what you have,  most things can recycle, continuing to stay a relevant piece for you.  Also, if you choose items that cater to your personal style and fit well as opposed to simply following trends you will always look great.

Here are some easy tips for how to make 3 different looks from just 1 outfit for men and women.

Her Easy Outfit Ideas

An easy foundation

Choose a solid color dress or closely related colors for your foundation (dress or top and bottom). For me, black is always classic and one of my favorite colors because of its versatility. If I feel dark I can express it with black or I can show a fun colorful side by adding a bright scarf.

Look # 1 This is what i call a multipurpose outfit!

Begin to accessorize

Every woman should have a basic black dress.  A simple, well fitting black dress can go a long way.  First of all you can just wear it alone with sneakers or high heels right?  This is a no-brainer dress it up or down item. Realizing it might get a little chilly, I added another layer, black leggings.

Transition one outfit  into 3 different looks via accessories! I decided to get  funky with this thrift shop grey suede vest. Playing on the red vest beading, red jewelry is an easy choice .

Look #2 Found this cool suede vest in a thrift shop!

Considering makeup as an accessory, increase the loudness with a bold lipstick or tone it down with a nude. A mash up of a bold lipstick with the casual aspect of a black bandanna and Adidas sneakers worked for our date night. We went to dinner, a show and then out to dance.

The next two looks i’m giving are just me having fun with accessories. Bring on the lace accessory jacket, hat, sunglasses, jewelry switch ups and makeup.

Look #3 Just grab an accessory jacket and a great hat!

Music can be a really fun motivator when experimenting with different looks. The goal is just to feel good and confident in what you are wearing. If you have trouble with mixing and matching, get a perfect black dress or another solid color that you love to create multiple looks with.

When in doubt, accessorize- just my opinion.

Makeup and jewelry can go a long way. You could wear the same outfit several times in the year feeling brand new each time by simply changing a few small details.

His Easy Outfit Ideas

Apache was able to pull off his 3 looks with one outfit so seamlessly. He transitioned into 3 different looks ranging from dressy to stylish-casual by switching up accessories, and then simply by how he wore the top.

Accessorize yo man

If you are a female reading, get some great gift ideas for your man’s birthday or father’s day from Apache.

I love Apache’s reserved look with suspenders and bow tie.  As Apache mentioned in the video, he has found many unique neck ties in thrift shops and Goodwill stores so don’t feel pressed to press your pockets all the time.

Look # 1 Vintage neck ties can be found in thrift shops for best prices

Man jewelry looks great in my opinion. Apache loves Native American jewelry as well as leather cuffs and Kangol hats.

Same outfit worn differently

Create a more laid back look without changing the pant or top. Simply  open the tie and let it hang around your neck, open a few buttons and maybe add some shades!

Look #2 A laid back approach.

If your clothing options are minimal, we have been there before. Try using accessories to give yourself a fresh new look!

Look #3  Did we mention that we both love rocking Adidas?

Charlotte Fashion on Your Budget $25 to $1000+

Red GUESS high heel for you? Found this in the Goodwill Boutique.

Seek out eyeball catchers on your budget, be it $25 or over $1000. It’s not hard to find fashion in Charlotte, NC and neither is finding it at various price ranges. Apache and I set out to see what we could find on the south side of Charlotte. Even with my sinus infection, it was so much fun playing dress up and keeping track of price tags so you can decide for yourself where your dollars should fly.

A cute outfit found in Anthropologie at Atherton Mill.

We explored four very different stores, all within a 5 mile radius of one another. Here are a few spots where you can find an outfit or accessory that will garner compliments wherever you go within your price range.

Fashion Budget $25-$30

Goodwill Boutique – Location: 3609 South Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28209

Goodwill Boutique accessories

Yes, there is a such thing as a Goodwill Boutique! We have never heard of one before this little excursion. The front counter employee described the difference between a Goodwill Boutique and typically seen Goodwill stores as carrying more notable name brand clothes including GAP, Lululemon, GUESS, Kate Spade alongside typical brands you may find in a Goodwill like Old Navy and other lower priced brands.

Check out these adorable boots for $14.99! You can definitely get lucky here on the right day.

Scanning the style set up of this establishment, clothing is generally grouped in color blocks. I did see more effort made aesthetically with presentation of decor and less clutter. In a pinch and on the right day someone could get really lucky in here. Prices are the same as any other Goodwill store. You could get an entire outfit including shoes and accessories for $25 or less.

You can’t beat $5.99 for a cute little Spring/Summer romper with happy colors.
This is the best Goodwill store presentation that we have seen so far.
Never seen a Goodwill store looking this neat and decorated. Great job Goodwill Boutique!

Fashion Budget $35-$120

Sleepy Poet Antique Mall Location: 4450 South Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28209

Welcome to the world of Sleepy Poet!
There is so much more to explore in Sleepy Poet between fashion finds.

Sleepy Poet Antique Mall may be a less obvious choice for finding Charlotte fashion. Wandering around Sleepy Poet is like being on a really fun treasure hunt. At the very least, you could find a cool vintage dress for $35.  Sleepy Poet houses anything from casual 80’s styles to timeless vintage statement accessories, offering clothing options at a variety of price ranges.

Apache says Sleepy Poet has the best vinyl selection and display he’s seen in Charlotte so far.
Does anyone else have a thing for boxes and chest’s? This one reminds me of something i might find in an enchanted forest- always been meaning to go there!
Home decor anyone? This color reminds me of royalty.
Your going to find vintage novelties here. Some may remind you of your childhood days.

High style, quality apparel holding stories from another era, could cost anywhere between $35+ – $120.

This is our favorite stop because it always feels like we are on a journey back in time. Plus, Apache and I have a shared predilection toward vintage clothing’s craftsmanship that we feel is not as accessible in american clothing establishments today.

I am particularly interested in quality footwear because of my personal feet issues. These are from the of 19th century when women had to do a lot more walking, making the low heel a practical option. She could maintain a feminine style with the narrow shape and attractive lace up front. The style of my maroon Pikolinos are very similar to these and are easy to wear with jeans or a dress.
Here is the $35 cocktail dress from the 1960’s that i found. It pairs well with my Pikolinos boots.
Apache found this vintage tweed sports coat for about $30 in mint condition. We think this is a great deal for a jacket made of woolen fabric that can stand up well to abrasive weather.

21st Century fashion is giving us a kaleidoscope of time period styles to pull inspiration from. We get to escort past generation ideas into the future for a fresh approach to create a new, fun and very personalized look.

I would love to accessorize this cocktail dress with my black floppy hat and  maroon fringe purse.

Fashion Budget $60-$300

Anthropologie – Location: Atherton Mill, 2000 South Blvd, Suite 200, Charlotte, NC, 28203

When we first moved to Charlotte we found Anthropologie in the SouthPark mall. It was a whole experience from the woods floors, to the scented air, very classy looking boho styles and ambiance with artsy but not overstated looking home decor (which my heart still skips a beat for).

This is my bed frame, they made it just for me, yup, it’s mine. I love to play make-believe in this section of the store!
Their store displays and fronts always give a refreshing, unique and warm ambiance. The creativity in this area is usually exciting for me.

This store appealed to how i saw myself as a maturing, creative person with desire to avoid overly trendy looks. Back in the day there was some drool to catch over their online selections. Lately the online selections are falling into my  mental “nice” or “cute”category, I recommend they hire Apache to help in this area! Although the Atherton Mill store was lovely, I believe the SouthPark mall location has more exciting selections to choose from.

Apache and I both can appreciate the sprinkles of rustic flavored decor around Anthropolgie.

If you want something special without the $200 price tag, check out their sale room where u can always get a great discount on a dress or the perfect skirt. They carry small to plus sizes which i appreciate having worn everything from small to large myself. Consideration for all of us is a plus in my eyes.

This dress could easily be layered on cooler days and transition well into the spring with sandals.

Fashion Budget $450- $1000+

Capitol – Location: 4010 Sharon rd., Charlotte, NC, 28211

The quintessential high end fashion boutique,Capitol, requires you ring a doorbell to be allowed into this otherwise locked establishment.

Understandably, majority of their merchandise costs climb from $1000 past $3000 with brands like Dolce & Gabbana, Alexander McQueen, Saint Laurent, Marc Jacobs and Gucci among others.

If you are on a budget, you’ll be better off waiting until the end of each sale period Capitol gives twice a year.

Solid salmon colored drapery seemed to spill from the high dressing room ceiling. Quality fabrics don’t lie, when i put this Carolina Herrera dress on, I felt like a million dollars. In a quick glance of myself in their full wall mirror, the word luxurious came to mind.

This Carolina Herrera dress felt durable and handmade with care, thus the $1000+ price tag. Sturdy in it’s construction and adorned with miniature raised flower stitching’s, this white dress could even pass for a cotton trench coat

Two younger employees hovered around us with elevator eyes (maybe they just liked our outfits?) and a parade of questions. However, experiencing the feel of this dress on my body with the backdrop of a dressing room fit for the Queen of England made the visit worthwhile!

Found an end of sale item. The cost had come down from approx $1000 to a $300 something price tag.

We have an appreciation for beauty, what can I say? Apache loves the botanical wall in Capitol’s courtyard which i missed because i was too busy scanning the merchandise. If you go, make sure not to miss it.

Capitol stimulated my imagination, faint fantasies of shopping without a budget gently swirled around my subconscious receptors that evening-sweet dreams!

All About Dr. Martens

Dr. Martens History

British footwear Dr. Martens have a air-cushioned sole called “Bouncing Soles” which makes a well broken in pair so comfortable to walk in and possible to run in an emergency.  Although this brand is highly popular in British culture they have also found their way around the world to many feet and hearts.  Dr. Martens became a staple originally with the skinhead culture in the 1960s.  This brand of boot went on to becoming embraced by punks and goths in the 1980’s and then by the grunge fashion scene. Other youth subcultures in the early nineties emerged flaunting Dr. Martens.

The impression I got from this style was “I don’t need to blend in with mainstream styles, I enjoy being different.”

What makes me happy? Leather and Lace! These black Docs work perfectly for this sultry winter look.

I knew the boot originated as part of a subculture which already attracted me.  They represent the part of me that is a little rebellious.

Dr. Martens Versatility

Currently I own 3 pairs of Dr. Martens but I remember the day I paid for my very first pair about 15 years ago….. Apache and I were hanging out in Greenwich Village in NYC. I knew I needed a boot that I could actually walk in, that would look cute with a dress or jeans.  We walked into this store where I saw a tall, black army boot (Dr. Martens) and my heart just melted- I knew instantly this boot and I were meant for one another!!!  Immediately I remembered my inspiration as a child sitting in my living room watching “Little House On the Prairie” and seeing little girls in dresses running in dirt with lace up army type boots.  I knew one day I would have a pair and also have complete freedom even if I chose to wear a dress.

Feeling fabulous hiking Crowders Mountain State Park in my white Docs in the Fall.

My feet can barely tolerate heels these days. I probably can count on one hand how many times a year I wear them.   I tend to be more of a boot or sneaker kind of girl.  Developing my style around my comfort looks sexy and feels empowering!

Dr. Martens are so versatile, they can handle a variety of different types of looks as you can see in these photos.  I dress according to my mood so i need lots of flexibility.  Fortunately, you can rock these bad boys with shorts, a dress, jeans, leggings or whatever and put together an original look. Dr. Martens also carry a line of vegan boots and shoes.

Why not pair a prom dress with some Dr. Martens? Demonstrating how versatile this boot can be.

Dr Martens are my prize possession because they keep me ready for anything!  I literally can go from hiking in the mountains to a night out dancing in these boots.

Pairing black Docs with some RP styles

Dr. Martens provide shoes and boots in a slew of shapes and designs so you can really personalize your look.  Style diversity is important to me and the Dr. Martens give me a lot of leeway for showing that.

I found that I can pretty much pair my white Dr. Martens with almost anything.  Let me show you….

Here i used a white tank top and socks that have white on them to pull the outfit together with the white Dr. Martens boot but it is not always necessary. This outfit was for a glow-in-the-dark themed House Party!

Dr. Martens age well honey!  It seems the older they get the better they look and the more broken in they are the better they feel in my opinion. Quality over quantity wins in life and also as it applies to footwear.   Give me a worn in pair of Dr. Martens over a pair of cheap heels any day!

A Spring look. These are the first pair of Dr. Martens I ever bought. I purchased these boots about 15 years ago and they are my most comfortable.

A Summer look. The option to wear a flat boot instead of a heel with a dress has been such a gift! Dr. Martens style can be worn all year long!

A Fall Look. Dr. Martens meet casual high fashion!

Another Fall look… leather and lace is always a yes for me and I am not sacrificing my comfort for a hot feminine look

I think Fall is my favorite season for fashion! Here I get to pair these burgundy Dr. Martens with plaid pants and a thifted suede vest– so much fun!

Winter look. Black is my favorite color to wear in the winter and these black Docs have weathered many storms over the years.

How to care for Dr Martens

How do I care for my Dr. Martens?

These boots are very easy to maintain and they can endure a lot.  Personally I clean and polish my boots once or twice a year depending on how they are looking or the style I am creating.

If you want to rock a more laid back, distressed look enjoy wearing your boots often, break them in well and don’t bother primping.   You can also clean and polish them as often as you like depending on how polished a look you want to present.   I went to the shoe store and purchased a container of Meltonian Saddle Soap which cleans all smooth leathers.  Saddle soap removes embedded dirt, shines and softens the leather.

Dr. Martens also work well with leggings

1) First I use an old clean rag or a stiff brush to brush off excess dirt from boot/shoe.

2) Use a clean end of the cloth or a sponge and dampen it with water, squeeze out excess water and then rub onto saddle soap until a rich lather is produced.

3) Rub lathered cloth/sponge well into entire surface of boot/shoe to remove embedded dirt.  Repeat as needed.

4) Remove excess lather with a clean, damp sponge or cloth.

5) Rub boot/shoe well using a clean, dry, lint free cloth to produce a shine!

Photography by Komadori Photography
Dr. Martens look great with a RP top hat and bustle.

Next… if you would like to freshen and even out the color of your boot /shoe then use a shoe polish that is the same color.  I enjoy using the shoe polish after cleaning because it makes the boot/shoe look brand new.  I purchased a small can of KIWI shoe polish in the same color of my boot.  The nice thing about purchasing from a shoe store is that if you are unsure of which color will match your boot or shoe the closest they can definitely help you figure that out.  If the color of your boot/shoe is not black or white you should bring them into the shoe store with you so you can be as accurate as possible in choosing the color.   To apply your shoe polish ….

1) Apply polish using a clean dry cloth or polish applicator.  Rub polish in a circular motion into leather completely until you see full, even color.

2)  Allow boot/shoe to dry.

3) Buff your boot/shoe to a gloss with a soft, dry cloth.

4) For extra shine you can apply another coat of polish, sprinkle with a little water and then buff again with a clean soft cloth.

How to stretch Dr. Martens

Some Dr. Martens will have stiff leather to begin with becoming more flexible and comfortable with wear over time. I noticed that my white ankle Docs were tougher to break into than the calf length boot.

Some style inspo fo ya!

My right foot has a bunion and is bigger than the left (blank stare). Subsequently, in order to relieve the pressure, I stretched out my right boot (White ankle Dr. Martens) by:

  1. Soaking two washcloths through with warm water
  2. Squeezing out excess water
  3. Stuffing the wet balled up washcloths tightly into the front of the shoe. Let the washcloths dry in the boot until ready to wear them again.
  4. I repeated this process twice before they felt comfortable for me.
Nothing screams freedom like a pair of white ankle Dr. Martens with a cute short black dress- of course i exaggerate a little bit. But yeah, heels be gone!

Ultimately Dr. Martens can compliment a wide array of looks and the more creative you are the more you can personalize the style.  Personal style should reflect who YOU are.  Choose a pair of Dr. Martens that call to you, then just play around with pairing different items of clothing until you see which outfits feel right. Inspiration is everywhere so keep your eyes open for it.

I hope you enjoy this blog as much as I enjoyed putting it together!

Most of all just make sure to have fun. Don’t be afraid to be adventurous and keep your look YOU because that is where the sweet spot is!

Why Wear Upcycled Couture Fashion?

Here I’m wearing Royal Peasantry‘s Athena dress in black. Cato Pinkney Photograpy Clothing: Royal Peasantry

When it comes to creating personal style, what’s more exciting than pulling from upcycled options? In this blog i will tell you why i wear upcycled clothing and also a cool place to purchase it. Upcycled couture fashion is a great way to add unique pieces to your wardrobe that will make your outfits stand out from the rest!

The definition for Upcycled: (of discarded objects or material) reused in such a way as to create a product of higher quality or value than the original. The definition for Couture: the design and manufacture of fashionable clothes to a client’s specific requirements and measurements. Upcycled couture fashion means your getting a one of a kind item.

When you were a kid, did you ever individualize your old jeans by cutting them up and adding a design? Did you ever sew a piece of jewelry or other material onto an old jacket to yield something that couldn’t be found anywhere else? Our generation did stuff like this when we were in junior/high school. Royal Peasantry takes this idea to a level of expertise, precision, and magical creation.

1) Decrease wastefulness

Taking something old and making it new again decreases waste in the world and provides an outlet for creative expression.

It was love at first sight of Royal Peasantry. Everything is hand crafted and most can be adjusted to fit the individual.

RP is transforming and dying unused leather. They can cut up old garments, sew them together with other materials that would be otherwise forgotten to create wonderful, wearable pieces of art(this is what makes RP fashion upcycled)! Think of how cool that is versus mass production factory made clothing items!

Would you consider wearing something a little less conventional to give yourself a new look? Apache and I prefer clothing items that look like art so we can keep reinventing our style for many years to come!

We found a plethora of these creative designs for Men and Women in Royal Peasantry. If you want to try something new, you can definitely reinvent your look with upcycled couture fashion here!

Stick with me now, you won’t be disappointed ….

Can you say FIRE! RP upcycled leather jacket! I was completely blown away with the creativity of this jacket.

Apache and I strolled down Lexington ave in Downtown Asheville. We glanced to the right and our eyes immediately transfixed on the enchanting garments displayed inside the RP window display. Eyes wide open in the world of Royal Peasantry we found so many well crafted items.

Each garment made with sharp, artful impression and stand out quality.  Apache and I were like two kids in a candy store! You can’t find this stuff in a mall.

Mens RP Leather Vest- Stylin!

This boutique is as visually intriguing as an art gallery. The tribal smell of leather kept us entranced. There were so many tactile delights, some of which were wispy feathers paired against flapping fringe in juxtaposition with cool, hard iron and other interesting textures.

Amanda Swafford, RP House Stylist approached and immediately welcomed us. She shared about the incredible foundation on which RP has grown.

Daniella Miller, founder, owner and Lead Designer opens her doors to the public to share her and her team’s collections that decrease wastefulness. RP aims to give the wearer a sense of pride in the unique creations donned.

Amanda selected items for us to showcase in our content. Ultimately this encounter lead us to our next adventure at RP Charlotte!

Honestly, i felt so divine in these outfits!

RP also has clothing items for rental!

We met Patti Byrd, Leather Worker and then Manager of RP Charlotte. Patti showed us many of the stunning neck adornments and bags that she created using scrap leather pieces. She talked about the peace she receives and love given during their development.

Get something cool and dress it up or down! At RP you can find an outfit to make an unforgettable fashion statement. Or just pair an accessory with jeans/leggings for the casual but highly fashionable look- Super versatile.

2) Find one of a kind fashion

Omg! Patti helped me try on one of their Upcycled Couture Wedding Dresses!  If I were going to purchase a wedding dress this would be it!  This doesn’t look like any ole typical wedding dress. This upcycled couture wedding dress is edgy, vintage, and magical looking! I think i could live in this get up!

But check out my crown thoooo!

Here is one of Royal Peasantry’s stunning upcycled wedding dresses.

The Athena dress is made from bamboo. This bamboo dress is super durable, super soft and stretchy. You can wear it long or pull it up to wear as an over the knee dress. The Athena dress looks really great with belts or bustles in which they carry a myriad of lovely options. Another really dope feature about the Athena is that there are about 5 different ways you can wear it!

Some other really great facts about bamboo fabric is that it’s hypoallergenic. Bamboo fabric is thermo-regulating which means it keeps you cool in the summer and warm in the winter! I also learned it is eco- friendly and wicks moisture away from the skin if you sweat in it. Last but not least, bamboo clothing is UV protective and biodegradable!

RP aims to decrease wastefulness and overproduction while creating one of a kind pieces.  I own a leather purse that I wore until it began to fall apart because I loved it so much. Now I’m excited I can turn that bag over to RP to redesign it and bring it back to life.

Any other Pink Floyd fans out there? Check out the dopeness for men!

Here is the front of that Pink Floyd sweater. It even has a satin lining on the inside which you can see on the cuff of the sweater. It’s the little details that really excite me!

Apache and I both prefer quality over quantity. Most times this costs a little more but it’s a gift to myself that will keep giving.  We found unique, timeless upcycled couture garments and accessories at RP.

One of my fashion weaknesses is fringe and leather! Over a couple of months I purchased a pair of red fringe leather earrings, and gorgeous leather neck adornment. I couldn’t resist the brown and black leather fringe belt as well.

I will probably end up passing these items down to my daughter and maybe even my granddaughter one day.

Loving this RP royal blue velvet blazer on our friend Ben!

Yes, guys can get up on this hotness too! RP carry accessory items for men as well.

Casually rocking my new RP leather Neck Adornment!

RP has a boutique in Asheville and also in Charlotte. You can also find their fashion on Etsy or their website.  If you need a little guidance working with these styles, contact them for RP stylist assistance.

Make sure to check out their cool website for a full list of how they may service you.  RP plays on my desire for imagination and a free spirited way of life.  Thank you Daniella Miller for allowing us to work/play in your beautiful designs and share your mission with our viewers!

My First Fall Fashion Blog!

Feeling fabulous in my new Pikolinos boots! (Praise hands)

Excitement galore! This is my very first fashion blog which also happens to be Fall oriented!

Sometimes style can be a form of self expression for me.  I am also a mood dresser.   My colors and style vary with the day depending on if I’m feeling excited, brave, sexy, tired or solemn- just the truth.

For my introductory Fall fashion blog I want to share some of my basic ideas about style.

First, confidence can make or break most looks. Secondly, I think it’s really cool to pair old items with new ones. Tying in older clothing pieces with new ones can turn a trendy looking outfit into a creative looking one!  I begin to see the older piece of clothing/jewelry in a new light.  Shopping vintage, goodwill and going through my older items I find treasures to pair with newer fashion items to help create my personal style.  Lastly, in general I’m very attracted to clothing that looks like a piece of art work.  When I find a piece that looks like art or that i find very unique, it will stay close to my heart, be re-used for many years to come, and I may invest (out of my budget) if I can.

In my opinion, artful pieces are not trendy so they never go out of style.  In addition, Apache has been very helpful over the years sometimes finding amazing items for me that I may overlook initially.  We make a great team!

All that being said, it’s been a long and lovely summer and I am super ready to rock some Fall fashion! One of my favorite Fall colors is ochre, it’s so rich and I think it looks really great on all skin tones! This color does something for picking me up and making me feel beautiful.

Confidence is all in our heads

Looking good on the outside is an inside job.

Some people dress down because that’s how they feel about themselves or they are just not confident enough to wear what they truly like. Others just enjoy dressing down which is cool as well- i do too sometimes. Confidence or lack thereof is what could make a very casual outfit look like more than it is or not. Really it’s not about the outfit but more about what a person feels about themselves that others will see.

Nobody knows what’s going on inside of your head. Although, we can give away clues by our posture, the projection of our voices and also facial expressions. All of this begins with what’s going on inside of our heads. Check your thoughts.

The insecurities that we may choose to believe in is not who we are. The negative self talk does not make those thoughts factual. Negative self talk is just something we decide to take on as a self defeating belief system. Although this will take practice, guess what, we are allowed to change our minds!

A little confidence can go a long way! But, if you can’t find a little, fake it until you make it! Act as if until it becomes true for you!

At times i have to work on changing my mind. I have been guilty of this type of self abuse and therefore spent many years preventing myself from enjoying great experiences and joy. If you start changing the words you tell yourself, you will begin to project out more good feeling and self confidence. Try it out! Walk tall, know you are God’s beautiful, unique creation and tell yourself that your awesome just the way you are. I guarantee that whatever you wear will look a lot better when you embrace self love.

Fall Fashion- Pairing the New with the Old

Shopping for new Fall fashion items

Obviously the color attracted me first but upon laying my hands on the stretchy fabric of this dress I knew we would be one!

The stretch in this dress is crazy ladies; and as much as my weight has fluctuated since I bought it a year ago from Urban Outfitters, it’s been a great gift.   When I bought this dress in Urban Outfitters I was just happy it stretched nicely across my then wide muscular back and today I am happy it flows loosely around the waistline- no bulge showing here!  As women our bodies tend to go through so many changes so i love an outfit that can adjust accordingly. When I turn this baby around there is this plunging crisscross back- a unique twist, yes it’s one of my fall favorites!

My Pikolinos ankle boots are so dope-says me!

The burnt sienna color opaque tights I got from Target. There is a special place in my heart for Fall colors!  I have quite a few pieces that I can pair these tights up with for a cozy feeling so they made a perfect purchase.

Trying my burnt sienna color stockings and Pikolonos boots with a different outfit!

I couldn’t say too much about my new favorite footwear brand Pikolinos – LOVE!  They save my feet with ultimate comfort and style.  I can rock these leather boots and walk all day long like I did in Asheville, NC boutique and gallery crawling without a problem.  At 41, I am so over being uncomfortable in an effort to look cute.  The outfit must be functional or i can’t be bothered.

I wish I had learned the lesson in my thirties that being uncomfortable aint cute!  My fellow sisters, we need the full package so we can feel our best.  I love these brown ankle boots because I can wear them with a dress or jeans and Fall thru Spring easily!  Pikolinos produce quality leather shoe craftsmanship. So although these boots are expensive they were worth every dime for me.  Also, I purchased another pair when they were on sale in Delaware for 50% off so keep an eye out for those deals and save.

Shopping for something old

Now, on to my oldest piece- I found this vintage men’s blazer in a thrift shop probably 8 years ago. It’s a timeless piece that adds class, a pinch of androgyny (which I love) and angle to an otherwise very girly look. I knew I could wear this jacket every year because it was classic as opposed to trendy. I also noticed this gem was 100% pure wool- another investment. This blazer kept me oh so warm in my ochre colored dress – jackpot!!! Make sure to raid the vintage and thrift shops, I didn’t pay more than $8 for this jacket.

Fall Fashion Colors -adding artful accessories

The earrings I bought at the LEAF festival up in Black Mountain from a Native American craft maker.  They were $35 but I felt they were so beautiful and could dress up most outfits.  They paired well with this outfit because the colors were in the same family as my outfit including yellow and orange.  The color of rust is a mix of red-orange-brown and so I pulled in the same colors with this blazer.  The pop of blue in the earring and in my hair was minimal enough to just add a spark of surprise to the color scheme.  The other statement piece of jewelry worn is my wide gem bracelet which was a gift from my other Mom.  This bracelet speaks for itself as far as color choice.

I would say don’t be afraid to try adding a bold statement piece to your outfit if it makes you feel great. Your outfit should make you feel like the best version of yourself. Create how you always wanted to see yourself. Make sure to have fun experimenting with looks you want to wear but are just doubtful to rock- you may get a pleasant surprise.

Congratulations to me on my very first Fall fashion blog!!!  This was fun! Please let me know if you enjoy this type of blog and wanna see more!
